Breaking Through (with JoeliD)

A Band Called Paul and JoeliD are “BREAKING THROUGH” with their trans-Atlantic Indie/Rap collaboration

Written and recorded at a distance of 5,000 miles apart, “Breaking Through” is a first time collaboration between Irish indie artist A Band Called Paul and Arizona-based rapper JoeliD.

With the clear and focused aim of weaving together our two distinct musical genres to create a new sound, the track infuses A Band Called Paul’s indie edge through its hip hop foundation, driving the predominantly guitar and drum led verses with intricate and percussive rapping from JoeliD.

Pass It On (Swing Demo Version)

While browsing through the archives here, we came across this original demo version of our album track “Pass It On”.

This version has a completely different feel and arrangement to the final album version, being more jazzy swing in vibe and with lighter instrumentation. But we though there was something special about it and we decided to polish it up a little and release it.

Hope you like it as much as we do.

I Believe (with JoeliD)

A Band Called Paul and JoeliD step way outside their comfort zones for their second trans-Atlantic collaboration “I BELIEVE”.

Written and recorded once again at a distance of 5,000 miles apart, “I BELIEVE” follows on from the hugely successful first collaboration, “Breaking Through”, by Irish indie rock artist A Band Called Paul and Arizona-based rapper JoeliD, released in March 2021.

Except this time, the two artists change direction completely and step into uncharted territory for each of them. It’s not indie rock and he doesn’t rap.

Composed back and forth between Dublin and Phoenix, “I BELIEVE” evolved naturally into a hybrid of gospel, reggae, world music and light jazzy funk.

Inside Out

“A monster tune with a beast of a backbeat”
– Tom Robinson, BBC Introducing Mixtape January 10th 2022, BBC Radio 6

No strings attached.
Or brass, or woodwind.
Not even a flugelhorn … not this time.

Having gone in many different directions over 2021 – collaborating with rappers, experimenting with lounge music and other genres and producing other artists – now Dublin’s A Band Called Paul makes a welcome solo return to his roots in an upbeat and rocking slice of indie fun.
